# TikTok Downloader

> A free web tool that turns a public TikTok link into a downloadable MP4 video
> or MP3 audio file. No account, no app, nothing stored.

## What it does

- Takes a public TikTok post URL (`tiktok.com/@user/video/<id>`, `/photo/<id>`, or a `vm.tiktok.com` / `vt.tiktok.com` short link).
- Returns the video as MP4 — without the moving TikTok watermark when a clean version is available from the source.
- Converts that video to MP3 **inside the visitor's browser**, using a local WebAssembly audio encoder. The video is never uploaded to a conversion server.
- Also offers photo slideshows, cover thumbnails, and the post's original background sound when TikTok provides it.

## How it works

The server is a streaming reverse proxy. A resolved media file goes straight from
TikTok's CDN socket to the visitor's socket; nothing is buffered whole and nothing
is written to disk. Download links are HMAC-signed and expire after 30 minutes,
so the endpoint cannot be used as an open relay.

## Limits and honesty

- Only publicly accessible posts work. Private accounts, deleted posts and
region-restricted content cannot be downloaded, by anyone.
- Quality is whatever TikTok currently serves for that post. There is no upscaling
  and no misleading "4K" claim.
- In-browser MP3 conversion is capped at 50 MB per video; larger videos are offered
  as MP4 instead.
- Download links expire; re-paste the URL to get a fresh one.
